Your information

Privacy at Petgyro

A plain-language guide to the information Petgyro uses to provide product discovery, editorial guidance and the Petgyro Letter.

Information you provide

Petgyro may receive information you choose to provide, such as an email address when you subscribe to the Petgyro Letter. If you choose a dog or cat preference in a newsletter form, we receive that preference with the subscription request. We do not require visitor accounts to browse the site.

Newsletter data

Newsletter addresses are stored to manage subscription status, confirmation and unsubscribe requests. Petgyro uses Resend to deliver these emails. A subscription is not active until the confirmation step is completed. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in a Petgyro email.

Admin authentication

Administrators and Editors use a separate protected area. That area processes an email address, a password record, two-factor authentication data, recovery-code records and short-lived challenge and session records as needed to authenticate and protect the service. This information is not collected from ordinary visitors.

Saved, Compare and device transfer

Saved and Compare lists are stored in your browser using local device storage. Petgyro does not create a visitor account for these lists. If you use the cross-device transfer feature, the selected list is sent through a short-lived transfer flow; transfer codes expire after one hour. You can clear local lists from the Saved or Compare experience or through your browser controls.

Cookies and similar storage

The public site uses local storage for features such as Saved and Compare. The Admin area uses session and CSRF cookies to keep authenticated actions secure. Where analytics is enabled, PostHog may use its supported browser persistence to remember an analytics session. These mechanisms are used for the purposes described here, not to create visitor accounts.

Analytics

When enabled for the relevant environment, Petgyro uses PostHog to understand site usage and improve discovery. Events may include page or product views, searches, saves, comparisons, newsletter actions and other product interactions. The application’s analytics boundary redacts sensitive values and does not intentionally send passwords, authentication secrets, challenge tokens or full newsletter message content.

Affiliate links and events

Some product links lead to external merchants. Petgyro may record an affiliate click or redirect event so we can understand whether a link works and how the service is used. Affiliate commission does not determine Petgyro Score, search order or recommendations. The merchant receives the information it needs when you follow its link and complete a purchase there.

Providers and infrastructure

Petgyro uses hosting infrastructure to run the web application and API, Neon PostgreSQL for application data, Resend for newsletter delivery, Cloudinary for approved media assets and PostHog for analytics when enabled. These providers process data only as needed for the services they support. External merchant sites have their own privacy practices.

Retention

Petgyro keeps information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, including operating subscriptions, protecting Admin access, maintaining service records and understanding product usage. Session and challenge records are time-limited, transfer codes expire after one hour, and browser-stored lists remain until you clear them or the browser removes them. Provider retention may also apply.

Security

We use access controls, protected authentication flows, short-lived credentials where appropriate and provider safeguards to reduce risk. No online service can promise complete security, so avoid sharing passwords, authentication codes or recovery codes with anyone.

Third-party links

Petgyro links to merchants and may link to external sources used in editorial work. Once you leave Petgyro, the third party’s terms and privacy notice apply. Review those notices before submitting information or making a purchase.

Your choices

You can choose whether to subscribe, confirm or unsubscribe from the newsletter, clear Saved and Compare data from your device, and use browser or device controls for storage and analytics where available. If you have a question about personal information handled by Petgyro, contact support@petgyro.com.
